Hi family, friends and colleagues
Five in a Boat is making a difference by fundraising for a cause that's close to our hearts, a charity called One in Four. One in Four isn't just its name; it's a sobering reality. Based in North and South London, One in Four stands as a beacon of hope and support for the one in four individuals who will experience sexual or domestic abuse in their lifetime. According to a recent study by the NPCC, 52% of sexual abuse committed is now child on child - this is horrifying. From therapy and counselling to legal assistance and public awareness campaigns, One in Four is reshaping narratives and providing survivors with the tools they need to heal and reclaim their lives. Today, the charity is proud to have 80 dedicated counselling volunteers on its team. However, to meet the urgent demand and clear its waiting list of clients seeking help, One in Four needs another 134 counsellors to come on board. Every year, the charity breaks even — a testament to its efficient use of funds. But this leaves us the team with zero flexibility to grow and expand the crucial services needed. Even a small contribution to this extremely worthy cause will profoundly alter the trajectory of someone's life, aiding those who didn't choose their trauma but bear its scars.

As a team we are a mix of ages and levels of fitness with 20 years between the oldest and the youngest person taking part. This is the first time any of us will have done a tough mudder and we are all spending from now until May 18th training hard for it.

ONE IN FOUR (LONDON)
One in Four support people who have experienced child sexual abuse and trauma by offering one to one therapy and group work.
We work with young people on a one to one and group basis to address issues around sexual abuse and trauma. We also support school staff around disclosures in school, as well as identifying children experiencing abuse or exploitation.
We provide training and resources for professionals to understand how the trauma of sexual abuse in childhood impacts on adult lives.
